From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group includes the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the group access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them few options but to head to Timmony in search of the traitor.
What’s Next?
From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Questers and Planners parties.
Audiences can look forward to learning which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
